This is mostly due to the weekly raid lockout, but there are still several quests that require difficult timings, or mechanics that are still difficult to accomplish in a raid setting. The difficulty of obtaining the axe is still significant despite the increase in player and item stat level increases that have been implemented since it became available. Most of the quest must be completed in the 25-man instance, and can be completed in both normal and heroic boss encounters. The axe and quest chain were added in Patch 3.3.0 at the same time the Icecrown Citadel raiding instance was added.
This guide will walk the player through the necessary tasks and quests in order to obtain the legendary axe. Shadowmourne is a legendary two-handed axe which is obtained through an arduous quest line available to Death Knights, Paladins, and Warriors.
